Awakened by Sweat and Smoke

Yeah. At 4:16 AM I woke up in a ball of sweat (way to start a blog with that image, I know) with a slight headache and immediately smelled the thick bittersweet smell of smoke wafting through my one big open window in my guest house in Altadena, CA. There are wildfires all over LA and one that is actually close to me in proximity in La Canada/Flintridge.... Seriously, I walked outside and there is smoke hovering in the air like a hummingbird. So, I turn on the news and I had to smile to myself in an ironic way as the weather guy on the local 4:30 AM news was saying "THIS WILL BE THE HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR....OVER 100 DEGREES. WITH THE HORRIBLE AIR QUALITY, CLOSE ALL WINDOWS AND TURN ON YOUR A/C.".....ummmmmmmmm, yeeeeaahh, I don't have A/C and even without the fires, I would probably have to get out of here for the day and spend it at a coffeehouse, library, or movie theater because I can fry an egg on my leg on hot days in my apt. So smoke + heat = Inglorious Bastards at 12:30 PM = sanity. Add in the mix that I leave for China tonight with a gaggle of psychologists and pastors from Fuller Seminary and I am going to have an interesting day.

  2. The Pasadena marathon was canceled last fall because of smoke from the fires--I sure remember that smell, and the pall in the air!

China? What's that trip about? Who all is going?

  4. I had trouble getting to this place so I'll send this in hopes it works this time. If so, I'll rewrite my "real" blog.

  5. Amy, your "guest house" must be really close from what I can tell from my vantage point. Billows of smoke in grays and oranges. Hope you can get back in to pack for the "trip from heaven".
